You can catch Symmetry Dance Company on the Main Stage at this year’s Bonfire at the Iron Furnaces. The company will be performing three pieces, including two original works choreographed specially for the Bonfire festival, as well as “Gotcha on a String,” one of our all time favorite pieces by Symmetry.
Symmetry Dance Company is an adult Contemporary/Modern Dance Company who’s mission is to provide dancers with an opportunity to express their artistic, education and technical performance through dance and choreography. Artistic Director, Abby Slater collaborates with the dancers to create powerful and imaginative pieces. Symmetry is dedicated to the pursuit of artistic excellence and provides dancers with the freedom of artistic creation. The Symmetry Dance Company Dancers perform at several venues throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania annually.
Abby Scaramuzzo-Slater
Director of Symmetry Dance Company
Abby Scaramuzzo-Slater began dance performance in 1985 and choreography in 1998. She graduated from East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania where she was a member of the University Dance Company, coordinator and head teacher of the Community Dance Program and taught adult ballroom and children’s dance classes in all styles. She is a former member of Pennsylvania Dance Vision’s Repertory Ensemble.
Abby is the Director of Symmetry Dance Company and is a guest choreographer for the East Stroudsburg University Dance Company as well as Pennsylvania Dance Vision. She holds additional certifications with Yoga Ed™., allowing her to bring yoga into public schools and train classroom teachers to bring yoga tools into the classroom. She is a certified PILOXING Instructor and is also certified with Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and is a Basic Level 1 Zumba instructor. Abby teaches Yoga, PILOXING, Cardio Kickboxing and Dance at her studio. She is also the Founder and Director of Symmetry Dance Company.
Laura Ancherani
Assistant Director for Symmetry Dance Company
Laura Ancherani has been formally trained in Classical Ballet, Jazz, & Modern Dance at the Civic Ballet Co. of Scranton PA. She apprenticed and assisted Irene Petraglia at Civic Ballet, Turi Studio of Dance and Ballet Theatre of Scranton from 1996-1999. She is the former Assistant Director of Modern dance, beginner and intermediate modern and jazz dance instructor/ choreographer for the Ballet Theatre of Scranton’s “The Dance Studio”. Former Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts semi-finalist and 2 year Scholarship recipient to NEIU#19’s Art’s Alive program for dance. Accepted to DeSales University dance program-1998. Laura is the Assistant Director for Symmetry Dance Company, Modern Dance Instructor at Symmetry Studio, and Nia Technique Instructor.
Symmetry Studio’s Dance Program- IN IT’S SECOND YEAR!
Symmetry’s Dance Program provides students the opportunity to express their artistic, education and technical performance through dance and choreography. The studio concentrates on creative and contemporary approaches to choreography while still providing classic dance technique.
